CELESTE WILKINS, PhD RIDERPREP

Horses.
Humans.
How we move.

I study rider biomechanics.
I build things with data.
I have a few thoughts.

I'm Celeste Wilkins. An equestrian with a rider biomechanics PhD. Philadelphia-based for my job as Lead Quantitative Analyst at the Philadelphia Phillies. I'm usually somewhere between a horse, research question, and screen full of code.

I've lived and ridden in Canada, Gloucesestershire, Surrey and West Susex, UK, Dublin, Ireland, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Toronto, Gainesville, Florida, and now, Philadelphia.

Riderprep is my philosophy of rider performance, from analysis to training. I blog about my rider performance thoughts here.

01 / RIDERPREP

Let's talk about
equestrians.

The science, the questions,
and the tech worth talking about.

A QUESTION I KEEP COMING BACK TO

“Independent seat.”
Okay, but what
does that mean?

Riders know the feeling. I want to understand the movement. My research looks at how we coordinate with the horse—and what we can actually measure.

02 / THE RECEIPTS

Curiosity,
with references.

Peer-reviewed papers, conference work, and the research behind the rider-performance questions.

the question everyone always asks

How does a horse girl become a MLB analyst?

Horses. Baseball, a basketball chapter, and NCAA D1 athletics???
Different sports, but the same curiosity about how we move (and how we measure it!).

01 / THE YARD

Horse girl, first.

I did a BSc (Hons) Equine Science at Hartpury University and a MSc Applied Equine Science at the Royal Agricultural University. I worked in equestrian journalism (Horse & Rider magazine). I worked in a start-up doing genetic testing for racehorses. I did a PhD in Rider Biomechanics at Hartpury University

02 / THE COURT

Innovating with Computer Vision for the Raptors.

I moved back to Canada to work with MLSE and the Toronto Raptors in the first year of NBA Hawk-Eye data.

03 / THE GATORS

It was good to be a Florida Gator.

I worked on AI-Powered Athletics, a project serving all of the Gators’ Division I teams. I innovated with baseball computer vision with Gators Baseball.

04 / THE BALLPARK

Career Curveball: The MLB.

Now, I am innovating for the Philadelphia Phillies as Lead Quantitative Analyst, Computer Vision. I find patterns in the game, and deliver new innovations to help the Phillies stay ahead of the curve. Go Phils!

03 / a little about me

A few of
my favourite things.

More about me ↗
01

I do science.

Equestrian biomechanics PhD. Lead quantitative analyst in computer vision in Major League Baseball.

02

I love to talk about it.

Rider biomechanics on TikTok, with a community of 30,000 followers. And now, more room to write here.

03

I make things.

Code, research tools, equestrian apps and data deep dives.
